Where else can you find a band described as follows: ’80s New Romantic pop, ’60s Motown soul, kooky turntablism, progressive trip-hop landscapes, bear a distinctly contemporary outlook.
Gotye’s not really a band… It’s one GUY!! A eccentric fellow by the name of Wouter De Backer who hails from Victoria, Australia. He’s one of these one man bands where he does everything from the odd-subtle percussion to sequencing a wide array of samples. To put it consicely and briefly, this guy embodies everything that is classy but edgey and new at the SAME EXACT TIME! (Which is very hard to do these days) Give him a listen and I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed.
The first time I heard one of his songs was at a billiard in a swanky part of Brisbane where the abstract video of his song ,Heart’s a mess (below), was on a small TV throwing me into a trance because what this video was showing was soooo different from the drunk tools barking at each other over a missed ball. Now if your like me and must have the whole CD then you might be hard pressed to get ahold of his albums. His most well know album is “Like Drawing Blood” which you can get from Amazon but trying to buy any of his other albums almost seems impossible to me. What makes it even worse is that the songs from those elusive albums are on Pandora teasing me everyday when I listen at work!!!!
